My Tokyo Trip Through Snapchat - 2016

When I visit Tokyo, it's about going home to spend time with my family and friends since I was born and raised there. Especially this visit, I went back feeling really homesick and wasn't thinking too much about planning blog posts or interesting content. But, my BFF Christine had a brilliant idea of a Tokyo post through Snapchat! It shows a little bit more behind-the-scenes of my life which I've been wanting to do for this blog, so it was perfect!

If you're looking for guides of Tokyo or other areas of Japan, scroll to the very bottom of this post where I've supplied links to all the posts I've done of Japan!

10 Eateries in Maui That Will Blow Your Mind

Did this McDonald's Breakfast plate catch your eye? I thought so!

Hawaii and their rich culture includes some delicious cuisine. As a born and bred Japanese, sometimes American (mainland) cuisine can be too much; too sweet, too salty, too-everything. But in Hawaii, the flavors tend to be appealing to my appetite because of the Polynesian influence.

With that said, stating that I ate my way through Maui might be an understatement! I ate as much as I explored the island and I have absolutely no shame. Pretty much everything I ate in Maui was delicious; can't think of one thing that I didn't like.

Without further ado, let's get into the good stuff!

Featured Friends: Yulia from TravelBlond

It's that time of month again for Featured Friends! I'm extra thrilled to introduce yet another Fly Away Friday OG, Yulia from TravelBlond. She's been an active participant of the Fly Away Friday link-up; both Chloe and I love reading her posts.

As usual, I've curated 10 questions for her in order for us to get to know her better! Let's do this!

How To Deal With Post Vacation Blues

Unless you're traveling for life, chances are, you get some level of post vacation blues. Luckily I'm in Tokyo enjoying my time with family right now but when I got back from Maui, I had some serious struggles. Especially since I was coming back from a tropical, relaxing place, it was extra difficult to face reality.

I know some people with serious issues with post vacation blues that nears a state of depression. If that's the case, please don't ignore it and consult with a professional. If it's not as severe, from my own experience, I've gathered some tips and tricks on how to ease the post vacation blues.

10 Things To Know Before The Road To Hana

The sole purpose of going to Maui was for a relaxing, tropical vacation to celebrate my birthday. But I knew I wanted to at least do one thing that required me leaving the beach or poolside. In Maui, there's a lot of adventurous and scenic activities you can do, one of them being the Road to Hana.

Before I discuss my concluding thoughts regarding the Road to Hana, I thought I would list things I would have liked to know before I went - which is a lot. If you're headed to Hana anytime soon, I hope you find the next 10 tips helpful!

6 Perfect Gifts for Travel Lovers

I'm going to sound cliche for a second here but bear with me. I've been curating my Christmas present list for people and I can't shake off the disbelief that it's, well, December. Again with the cliche but wow, where did 2016 go? I just got used to writing '2016' instead of '2015' and now I have to start writing '2017'?

Anyway, cliched statements aside, I put together a quick list of gifts that are perfect for the travelers in your life. Or hey, yourself - you deserve it! I was gifted most of the things listed below by family and friends because and don't know what I would do without them. In a way, these items already have a Life in Wanderlust stamp of approval! ☺

Meet the Beaches || A Guide to Long Beach, California

I’m beyond excited to introduce my new series, Meet the Beaches in partial partnership with Jrrny! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now since when I first moved here, I had no idea which beach was where, how close to the city or what was around it.

Apparently I wasn’t the only one! It’s one of the top questions I get when people are visiting LA and decided I’d make a simple guide of the most frequented beaches. Every couple of weeks, I’ll be introducing a new beach and can’t wait to share it with you!

How To Negotiate Free Stays At Hotels

I've been on the other end for years. As a Director of Sales & Marketing at a large leisure hotel in downtown Los Angeles, I received at least one influencer e-mail a day asking to get a free stay. Instead of discussing how to collaborate with a hotel from a Travel Blogger's point of view, I thought it would be a more interesting and unique twist to talk about it from the hotel's point of view.

It's still fresh in my mind, the years of receiving e-mails and phone calls from bloggers, influencers, etc. Obviously hotels and other accommodations vary; the size, the pricing and the correct person to talk to. For the most part, a blogger will end up talking to a Director of Sales, Director of Marketing or like me, a Director of Sales & Marketing. Smaller properties may not have that position so it's always best to ask.

The Ultimate Girlfriend Getaway Guide to Palm Springs

Palm Springs has been one of the hottest destinations for Californian locals for a quick getaway. But recently, thanks to Coachella and several Instagrammable hot spots, Palm Springs has been the ideal destination for everyone from all over the world.

When my BFF and I were planning our annual trip together, I instantly offered Palm Springs. Not only is it a great spot for a girl's getaway, she's from Portland where it's been rainy. So I knew she would enjoy the thought of poolside drinks and plenty of sun!

My Eat, Play & Stay guide through Palm Springs is sure to help you and your girlfriends have a blast! The Ultimate Girl's Getaway in Palm Springs Guide, here we go!

8 Totally Touristy Things To Do in Boston

A lot of my friends I graduated with went to college in Boston but it never really appealed to me (I ended up in Washington). That's of course until everyone was having a blast during their undergrad; the fun food, sports galore, all 4 seasons and beautiful architecture. But being on the west coast, my friends always wanted to visit me more often that not and I never got a chance to make it out to Boston.

....until now! When one of my best friends got married in Cape Cod (click right here for the Cape Cod post!), I. Was. Stoked. I finally got to visit Boston, yay! Having it be my first time, trust me when I say I did everything touristy. No shame at all about that, either! For all the future first-timers of Boston, I've compiled 8 touristy things to do!

Adrift on Earth || A Review

Hi, friends! Meet Courtney from Travel Daze Co. Courtney is one of the OG's of Fly Away Friday; gave us an opportunity from week 1 and has joined us ever since! During that first week, I visited her blog and was drawn to the way she writes, her journey and the beautiful photos she snaps of New Zealand.

Fast forward a couple of months, I'm happy to introduce her here on my blog. I asked her 10 specifically curated questions so we can all get to know Courtney! Enjoy!

Globetrotter Recipes from Sun Basket || A Review

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I take food just as seriously as I do my landscape photos when I travel. That's because I believe cuisine plays a big part in learning a new culture. Pasta in Italy, Sashimi in Japan, whatever it may be, it's a way to immerse yourself in that foreign location.

Unfortunately for most of us, we can't travel 365 days a year and eat delicious food that's out of our norm. So when Sun Basket reached out to me introducing their Globetrotter Program, I was sold!

10 Helpful Tips for Surviving a Redeye Flight

A couple of weeks ago, I was in Cape Cod and Boston. From Los Angeles to Boston, the redeye flight was so cheap that I jumped on the price without questioning it. As the departure date was getting closer, I started dreading the fact that I chose a redeye flight. There are definitely pros to it; they tend to be cheaper, you forgo paying an additional night at a hotel and you get a full day to enjoy your destination. But the struggle is real when it comes to overnight flights, agreed?

For my redeye flight to Boston, I did my best to make the most out of it including a positive attitude. Guess what? It wasn't all that bad! So here I am, sharing the 10 things I did to help you survive the infamous redeye flight, too! If you have flight anxiety on top of that, click here for my Fear of Flying post!

POPSUGAR Must Have Box || A Review

I'm a huge sucker for subscription boxes. At one point, I was subscribed to over 8 monthly services until I quit all of them cold turkey. I had to evaluate which ones were worth it, which boxes sent me items I actually used, all that responsible adult stuff.

The one I had the hardest time parting with was the POPSUGAR Must Have Box and I'm not just saying that because they sent me one to review. I loved the fun, different things that were in the box each month so suffice to say, I was pumped when they reached out to see if I wanted their September Must Have Box!

A Reflection || My 4 Year Anniversary in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is the city of dreamers.

Everyone wants to be here. Everyone wants to live here. Everyone wants to move here.

4 years ago today, that's exactly what I did. It's funny, though. Truth is, I didn't move out here to "make it in L.A". I'm a city girl from Tokyo and the size of L.A is nothing in comparison but Portland certainly wasn't cutting it. I just needed a change. And some sun.

The Perfect Day Trip Itinerary for Cape Cod

Thanks to one of my best friends getting married last Saturday, I had the opportunity to visit both Cape Cod and Boston for the first time! The wedding itself was in Cape Cod but I couldn't pass up adding a few days to explore Boston!

Minus the time spent at the beautiful wedding (congrats again, R & A!), I enjoyed approximately a day in Cape Cod and discovered a few places worthy of mention! Since my Boston experience will be chock full of photos and recommendations, I figured Cape Cod deserved individual love!

Featured Friends: Mara from Vacations With Mom

I've been loving having guests on my blog. It's probably one of the best decisions I've made for this blog alongside the Fly Away Friday linkup with Chloe. I love getting to know other travelers and becoming friends along the way while e-mailing back and forth.

Say hello to Mara from Vacations With Mom. The thing that stuck out the most was her blog name and theme. Mara blogs about her - well - vacations with her Mom and features other travelers that do the same. I love that! My parents and brother are my best friends so it makes me happy when I see families traveling together...is that weird? Ah, well.

More Things To Do & Good Food In Portland, Oregon

I was in Portland, Oregon for Labor Day weekend to celebrate a friend's gender reveal. But since that was only a few hours, I got to explore some new places in Portland that I thought I would share with you!

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you already know that I used to live there. A total of 4 years of my 20's was spent in Portland; 2 years right out of college and 2 years after Detroit. My best friend lives there and got to stay at her new place for most of the trip, so thanks Maya & Will!

If you're looking for things to do, places to eat or fun activities in Portland, obviously keep reading this post. In addition though, check out my first Portland post for another list of must-do things when in the City of Roses!

How To Deal With: Fear Of Flying

Most people are surprised to hear that I despise flying. The process of buying the tickets and the idea of leaving town via air is fine. But when it comes to the physical aspect of flying, it gives me a lot of anxiety.

The sheer thought of being in a metal cylinder with wings that somehow manages to float 30,000 feet in the air at 600 mph? How are people not concerned about that? Seriously though, I dream of the day where we can teleport to our destination.

My Favorite Travel Skincare Products

As much as I love writing about destinations, there's so much more to travel than just pictures of beautiful places and delicious, local cuisine. I enjoy reading fellow Travel Blogger's lifestyle-esque posts so much and decided to start writing some of my own. Let's Go To: Big Bear, California

Even though I've lived in Southern California for almost 4 years now (wow, time flies when you're having fun in the sun!) and used to be an avid skier, I've never been up to Big Bear Lake. I even used to work at a hotel located near the foot of the mountain! So when I was thinking of a little staycation to go on, I decided on Big Bear.

On this post, I'm excited to introduce Kim and Rob from Simply Travelled. They're officially the first traveling couple on my blog, woohoo! I also asked them about traveling as a couple, where they met, how they compromise and they didn't disappoint! Read on for inspiration and wise words from Kim & Rob!

My Top 10 Hotel Necessities

Wow, I haven't done a lifestyle post like this in ages! If you've been following me on Instagram, you know I've been in and out of a lot of different hotels. I love staying at hotels and discovering different brands. I love hotels so much I have several years experience in the industry and a Masters in Hospitality Management to boot!

With that said, I've curated a list of my must-brings when it comes to staying at hotels, whether it's for one night or one month.

Enjoy!

Introducing: Fly Away Friday & Time Travel Blonde

Happy Friday, everyone!

Some of you may already know Chloe from Time Travel Blonde. We've been following each other for a while now; I think we started our Travel Blogger/Instagrammer venture around the same time. I've always loved her style and can't get enough of her shiba!

A couple of weeks ago, we started talking about how we wanted to start a link-up (also known as a blog hop) for travel bloggers just like us! We wanted to create a space and community where travel bloggers can get together, get to know each other, support one another and to share their beautiful travel experiences.

I present: The Fly Away Friday Link Up hosted by Time Travel Blonde & Life in Wanderlust!

Let's Go To: San Francisco, California

It's true, I left my heart in San Francisco. I'm also wondering why I don't visit more often! Actually, I know why. Whenever I fly up to Northern California, it's for Napa Valley and never have enough time for San Francisco. Thanks to reasonable airfare and the Courtyard by Marriott Union Square, I was able to make a much needed trip up to Fog City.

Even though real estate is ridiculous in San Francisco, I can see why. It's such a beautiful, diverse and green (literally and figuratively!) city. The cuisine choices are endless and there's constantly things to do. If anyone wants to move there with me, let me know!

But until then, I've curated a list of my favorite places, new and old in San Francisco. Enjoy!

Featured Friends: Wendy from The Frolic Project

London Eye

Hi fellow wanderlusters! If you want to get to know a super cool gal, you're in the right place. Today I have one of my Insta-Gal-Pals here to grace us with her presence. Wendy and I've been following each other for a long time. We bonded over coffee (or food? Probably both!) and ended up trading numbers in hopes of getting together since we're both in the L.A area. At this point she feels like one of my best friends seeing as we text each other...a lot, haha!

Anyway. She's a fabulous person, a great friend and I knew my readers would enjoy getting to know her too! Read below as she discusses her travel experiences along with her beautiful pictures. Don't forget to follow her on Instagram and visit her blog!

Let's Go To: Las Vegas, Nevada

Oh, Vegas. Vegas is such a crazy place. If you've ever been, you know what I mean. If you haven't, you should experience it at least once in your lifetime. There's unlicensed characters walking around asking for money, you can drink alcohol freely on the streets, it can take you 30 minutes to get from your room to the front desk of your own hotel, there's magic shows and the city falls asleep around 7:00AM.

Being in LA, it only takes about 4 hours to drive out here and I don't know why I don't more often! This time around, I was mainly here for EDC Vegas but tacked on a few more days to enjoy Vegas after the festival ended. So much fun!

Here are my favorite spots in Vegas:

Electric Daisy Carnival - Las Vegas, Nevada

Even people that know me well were surprised to hear that I was attending EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival). It’s always been one of my 'Bucket List' items in life as I enjoy various styles of EDM (Electric Dance Music). EDC? EDM? If this sounds foreign to you, perhaps these famous artists may ring a bell: Zedd, Tiesto, Alesso, Calvin Harris, The ChainSmokers, Steve Aoki – I can go on but I'm guessing you get the idea now!

Review: Erin Condren's Travel Line & Updated Travel Plans

I'm one of those people that adore stationery and need it to keep my life in order. I also grew up in Japan where having cute little agendas is part of the culture. For the past 3 years, I've been using the Erin Condren Life Planner. You're either a part of the cult following or you're not, simple as that. I'm so picky even I surprised myself by using the same planner 3 years in a row!

Featured Friends: Alex from My Life Long Holiday

Florence, Italy

Hi, friends! I'm beyond excited today to kick start my new project: Featured Friends. I asked on Instagram for people to e-mail me if they wanted to be featured here on my blog and was so thrilled to hear from some of you! I wanted to create this space to introduce other Travel Bloggers since that's the kind of support I received when I first started blogging.

Anyway, I'm so happy to introduce Alex from My Life Long Holiday today! I love that we're both travelers yet so different; she has a family of her own and 3 children, I'm single and can't even grow a plant, she has a ton of European experiences and I have very little - and so much more! Enjoy!

Let's Go To: Palm Springs, California

I try my best to take advantage of long weekends. 3 days off? Time to travel! Thanks to Travelzoo, I found a deal I couldn't resist at the hotel I've been lusting over - The Saguaro in Palm Springs. Not only that, I've lived in California for almost 3 years now and never been to Palm Springs! I took it as fate that they would have such a great deal for Memorial Day Weekend and quickly booked it.

Is TSA PreCheck Worth It?

With summer coming up, everyone is talking about their travel plans. One thing that comes up a lot in conversation is the TSA PreCheck program. The one question I get a lot:

Is it really worth it?

The quick answer is: YES!

The longer, more informative answer? Right here:

Let's Go To: Seattle, Washington - Part II

I wasn't originally going to post anything regarding my trip to Seattle this past week since it was actually unplanned. My 93 year old Grandpa and Uncle needed some help selling one of their houses so my parents flew in from Japan and I went up last minute to assist.

Amidst all the moving and selling furniture on Craigslist, my parents and I managed to slip away for a fun day in downtown Seattle. I figured I listed everything I had to on my post from last year for things to do in Seattle (click here for Seattle Part I) but we went to enough new places I thought I would share!

My First Cruise Experience - Ensenada, Mexico

Last weekend I went on my first cruise ever! I'm so proud that I get to check off one of my New Years Resolutions - Travel via Road Trip or Ship! I went with a group of friends and only 1 of us had been on a cruise so it was definitely an experience.

How To Deal With Homesickness

Let's get personal for a second. One thing people don't know about me is that I suffer heavily from homesickness. Have you ever looked up the definition of homesickness? Probably not, because it's one of those terms you just know; missing home, missing your family, something like that.

But did you know that homesickness is similar to Separation Anxiety Disorder? Separation Anxiety Disorder is anxiety that happens prior to the separation, whereas with Homesickness, it happens after the separation in addition to depressive symptoms.

5 Things My Mom Taught Me About Travel

In my family, the travel bug has always been with my Mom. After college, she toured the world with a large company in Japan as a Corporate Interpreter. Just like yours truly, she's moved from Japan to Seattle to Hawaii and back - you get the gist, we both love to travel.

So in celebration of Mother's Day, I've come up with 5 things traveling with my Mom has taught me. I'm dedicating this post to my Mom that's all the way in Tokyo. I know she's reading this, so thank you for everything you do for the family and being the best Mom anyone could ever ask for. I miss you and can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks in Seattle!
